Cyber crime threatens us all daily

SecureWorks' an Atlanta based online security company, recently reported that hackers attempts to attack the health care industry nearly doubled in the last quarter of 2009.

Attempted attacks rose from an average of 6,587 per health care client, per day during the first nine months of 2009 to an average of 13,379 attacks per client, per day in the last three months of 2009.

Health care agencies and their associated business providers have access to the data of millions of people. This includes social security numbers, financial data, birth dates, account records, and other information valuable to the cyber criminal. Attempted cyber attacks are constant.

One of the other features attractive to cyber criminals is the interconnectedness of many of the data systems. Gaining access to one system can open the door to many others and before you know it all the client data has been harvested for illicit use.

Securing systems remains a top priority and if business wants to remain secure, they need to constantly monitor access to their systems and stay on the cutting edge of security products.
